France Sees Surge in Violent Crypto-Related Crimes Targeting Investors
France's cryptocurrency community is grappling with an alarming escalation in violent attacks aimed at digital asset holders. In a brazen incident last Friday, armed assailants targeted a crypto executive's family in Verneuil-sur-Seine, tying up the household and fleeing empty-handed. This follows a pattern of so-called 'wrench attacks' where criminals employ physical coercion to steal cryptocurrencies.
The tactics have grown increasingly sophisticated, with home invasions and kidnappings becoming disturbingly common. Just days before the Verneuil attack, a 43-year-old investor in Saint-Léger-sous-Cholet was abducted at dawn and later hospitalized after being dumped miles from his home. France has emerged as Europe's epicenter for such crypto-related violence, signaling new security challenges for the digital asset space.
